As part of my rebuild project, I decided to ditch the point and condenser in favor of CDI – using a PX stator – Part of the research focused on figuring out if the flywheel will work \u00a0with the new stator.\u00a0 It turns out the flywheel does have a the ” S” built-in for pickup trigger but the position if off.<\/p>\n

Information available on the net is sparse so I decided to document all steps in the procedure and here it goes:<\/p>\n

I compared the P200 and P125 flywheels by identifying the position of pickup trigger ” S ” in relation to the woodruff key slot – this is not a very scientific method but it made sense to me !<\/p>\n

I also compared the location of the ” S ” through the slot when at the TDC by installing each flywheel –<\/p>\n

Then I measured the angle difference and deduced that in order for the new stator pickup to align with the ” S ” on P125X flywheel, the mounting slots need to be lengthened to compensate for angle needed to the setup to work.<\/p>\n

I know it would be very simple to just buy a new P200 flywheel and not mess with the modification, there is no fun in that !<\/p>\n

Believe I mounted the P200 flywheel and the engine fired up on first kick …..<\/p>\n

Anyway, coming back to the modification, I started with a drill but soon realized that this will be bit harder and require some more specialized tools to properly lengthen the slots while keeping the curve –<\/p>\n

Don’t forget to wrap coils with some elec\"\"trical tape to protect from metal shavings and any damage —<\/p>\n

Ebay to the rescue……<\/p>\n

ordered a milling bit with rounded end \u00a0and mounted it to a drill press – now i had a crude milling machine !!!! \u00a0( this item<\/a> )<\/p>\n

Slots were lengthened and i could now adjust the stator enough to align with flywheel ” S ” –<\/p>\n
